The sidewalks are cluttered with leaves, and the bowl of candy sits on the porch, as this year the giver of treats decided to let the kids without tricks take what they want from the unguarded bowl.
Oh, how the print industry’s obsession with collecting worthless awards reminds me of kids loading up their treat bags from unguarded candy dishes.
Here’s a scary thought: what if the kids weren't all honest and ignored the sign that said, "Please take only one treat"?
Most would agree that the homeowner has to believe the self-guided distribution of candy would not last long. Maybe It’s the homeowner’s way of participating without actually participating.
As the print industry finishes out 2026, they will find many year-end awards sitting on unguarded porches. Those gratuitous nonsensical platitudes that some winners actually believe have merit.
Here’s a scary damn question: Has the print industry become a D.E.I. industry? Oh, the D.E.I. I am referring to is this: Delusional Executive Immerited. and for those asking, "immerited" is an archaic word meaning unmerited.
Maybe one day, when the young folks take over, they will end the nonsense. Hopefully, this new generation of leaders had parents who taught them that accolades without merit are worthless and are probably given by manipulators seeking to gain something from the recipient.
Oh, here’s something even scarier: the younger generation’s parents are the ones currently accepting the nonsensical awards. So, I guess the current award collectors would have to be complete hypocrites to do something they taught their kids not to do.
Let’s be hopeful that enough of the younger generation will stand up and say Enough with the bullshit, Mom & Dad!
So, as the kids go collect candy from unguarded bowls on porches, it will be those kids who realize the lesson in the importance of discipline in accepting any reward, especially when the reward has no guard.
Happy Halloween. Maybe this unguarded candy bowl message will scare some sense into the industry’s old folks!

The latest attempt at distraction was published on Friday! An interview on Friday’s With Frank, where he hosted Fujifilm executives who discussed nothing new. It was a conversation about production print and what I viewed as an update regarding the perpetual On-The-Job Training at Fujifilm regarding their Dealer Channel Development.
In reality, it’s the innovator who doesn't run back to what they are comfortable with when innovation gets uncomfortable who achieves perfected innovation.
Our nation’s humility as we mourned the lost was not because we were polarized by politics; we were instead polarized by patriotism. We came together as Americans, as one nation united by our humanity.
