The Ability To Think The UnThinkable

The Ability To Think The UnThinkable

“Those who can think of the unthinkable will prepare more than those who can’t imagine anything interfering with what they assume is everlasting comfort.”

As we all watch this pandemic raise hell with all that was good; however, each of us defined good. None of us ever dreamed that the start of the 2020 decade would bring the human race to its knees. Unfortunately, yes, some imagined the world we find ourselves in. However, many times the translations of the unimaginable are too much to comprehend.

The world’s science community and the world’s leaders will study the prequel and aftermaths of this pandemic for decades. In all things of historical value, it is in the prequel where we find the un-willingness to comprehend the dangers of the un-thinkable.

Sadly, very little today should ever be a surprise. The innovators, the technologies, and the collaborative scientific communities in our modern world can provide us pretty accurate descriptions of what could be or will be.

However, it has always been in the grey area between could be and will be where decisions are made to prepare or not. Those who see clearly in this grey area will translate what they see.

However, In many cases, the more un-thinkable or uncomfortable those visions are to the current status quo, the more likely the one translated to will ignore or procrastinate the needed preparation to mitigate the threat.

As in past generations humankind is occasionally tested, and those tested times have nearly always provided valuable lessons for the preceding generations. The lessons from this pandemic will be many. One lesson is; it is not harmful or unproductive to think of the unimaginable things which can destroy our comfort; instead, it’s the start of preparation for what’s possible and could be the prevention of what was probable.

In life and business, all that is comfortable will one day be challenged and avoiding or ignoring what could be because of uncertainty or fear of what will be. Will lead to unpreparedness, a place of immense danger.

This pandemic crisis has and continues to teach the world just how vulnerable human life is. The effects of these times will test our resolve, our compassion, and our willingness to sacrifice. However, it’s in sacrifice where aspirations are born. Let’s all first aspire to kick this virus’s ass, and then we must all aspire never to take comfort for granted.
